Mastering Pastels

Foundational fine art techniques for the budding artist.

This introductory pastel course is designed to build foundational skills through hands-on practice and exploration of essential techniques.

Week 1: Intro into the World of Pastels!

Students will learn what pastels are and the basic techniques of which to apply them to create desired effects.

Week 2: All about Pastel Landscapes!

We will be doing a classroom project (using techniques learned from week 1) that involves selecting a reference photo (chosen by majority vote) to be used as the subject of a pastel artwork of an exciting landscape!

Week 3: Is Everything Still Life?

In this week the students will bring a picture (either by phone or printed) of a still life scene curated and placed buy hemselves and then taken a picture of via camera. With this personal reference photo of everyday items that have meaning to you we will create a still life work of art using the pastels to do so.

Week 4: Figurative Focused!

This class, the students will use what they have learned through the previous week to form a beautiful figurative painting showing movement/ human activity!

For Ages: 12yrs & up

Days/Times: Saturdays, 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Meet your Instructor – Dominic Roebuck

Dominic Roebuck is a well-known local artist who works full-time creating and teaching art. He specializes in technical drawing and painting techniques, working with graphite, charcoal, oil paints, and oil pastels. Dominic’s signature style blends realistic detail with a surreal, almost ethereal quality that makes his work instantly recognizable.

In this course, Dominic will guide students through a rich combination of beginner, intermediate, and advanced drawing and composition skills. With these techniques, you’ll learn how to create artwork that captures attention and inspires appreciation.
