Coffee, Chat and You

Individual Classes for Adults

Want to experience new and different art forms but don’t want to invest in the plethora of supplies needed to complete the projects? Want to learn new art skills, expand your creative network, and make new friends? Join us for our new Coffee, Tea and Art class! This is a meet-up style class that will gather twice monthly to explore a variety of projects and mediums, such as quilling, paper arts, felting, painting, sculpting and more! Whether you choose to participate virtually, or in person, art supplies are included with tuition for each class, so no need to haul anything around or purchase additional un-needed supplies. Coffee and tea is complimentary for all in-person participants.

At Jewell Tone Music we believe that having opportunities for artistic expression and training is just as important as learning to play music. Through all or our art classes, we hope to give all our students the opprotunity to experince a wide variety of art forms and have the freedom to learn and create in a fun enviroment.

I cannot remember a time when art was not a part of my life.
My earliest recollection was tracing the Sunday comics and my first career goal was to be a Disney artist.

I graduated from Lynchburg College (now the University of Lynchburg) with a degree in Art Education. I am a life long learner and have taken many art classes from ceramics to printing to drawing and painting.

I have taught all ages and levels from elementary to adult in a variety of settings and venues over the years.

I recently retired from teaching art at Culpeper County High School after nearly 13 wonderful years of working with some of the most amazing students. While there, I established the Blue Devil National Art Honor Society Chapter, helped with theater sets and helped put on many art shows.

Since retiring, I have been able to devote more time to creating my own art. I have art displayed in several local venues around Culpeper. I love working with acrylics, colored pencil and pen and ink in a variety of subject matter but especially animals.

I have 4 children and 2 grandsons.

I really discovered my love for art when I became a mom! When I got books from the library to read with my children, I soon realized that I was selecting them as much for myself as I was for them! I loved looking at the beautiful illustrations. What started out as a casual interest, over the years has become a huge part of my life. As much as I love creating my own art, I love teaching and sharing art with others even more.

My art education has been obtained primarily through independent study. I have taken classes and workshops in various art forms and techniques. I remain on a continuous journey to learn new things. While technique is important, it is not the main focus of my teaching style. I am always happy to demonstrate technique and instruct students as to how to do the projects, but I feel it is more important that each student feels free to add his/her own interpretation to the art they are creating, and to really make it their own. I strive to create an environment by selecting projects that allows for students of different ages and skill levels to comfortably participate in the same project, often side by side.

I have been teaching art at Jewell Tone Music for three years through summer camps, and after-school and Saturday art classes. In my own art, my main mediums are felting, quilling and painting, but I am always looking for new things to experience, learn and share. I offer a variety of mediums and projects to allow students to experience many different art forms. I encourage my students to share with me what it is they wish to experience or learn so that I can help them truly enjoy their creativity.
